Bush To Secure $20 Billion Saudi Arms Deal

Yes. I’m loath to admit that the cunning and political experience sported by the Bush administration is somewhat higher than one might think,

After-all, one could expect no less from the people who sold us an illegal war. Not once, But many times. At first we had the mushroom cloud analogy, it was portrayed as a quasi defensive incursion into Iraq to save the U.S from a volley of nukes, rather than the illegal (have I already mentioned that?), unilateral and selfish invasion that it was.

Then “somehow” the goals changed. Without much media or public opposition. Now, it was about Al-qaeda. Ah yes, our wonderful scape-goat. I can’t help wondering how much the administration must adore the leeway their colleagues are giving them.

Anyway, the faces and excuses given are many, now however, it’s Iran. An invasion excuse will come in the form of “having to stop Iran before they jeopardise Iraq“.

But we need to be careful. While Bush has been playing ping-pong in the Middle-East, all the while shouting FIRE at the top of his fabulous rhetorical voice. Deals are being made, deals that… may not garner the administration much sympathy.

Bush is in Saudi Arabia right now, is not to discuss Iran. But to complete the $20 BN dollar arms deal with what is considered one of the worlds least diplomatic countries (what do you expect from a country with a sword in their national flag?).

It makes little sense to me. The only thing that does make sense, is that he furthers two causes. He provides a smoke-screen with the Iranian hype, and concludes a deal that no U.S taxpayer anywhere in the world would dream of endorsing.

One for their side.

Update Jan 15th: Foxnews heralds the visit as “President Bush tells King Abdullah he hopes OPEC considers the negative effect ‘very high’ oil prices are having on the U.S. ” Which of course is better than having to explain where the U.S Taxpayer’s money is really going.
