The irony of being a Christian conservative

One thing I feel very keenly, is the mind-boggling irony present in today’s conservative wing of U.S society. Despite the open bias with which I confront the news, I do attempt to take a multi-lateral approach to the news. In doing so, I came across this news article by the Christian Coalition of America.

“Comments like ‘America was founded on Christian principles’ by Senator John McCain just might make him president.”

Statements like these make me want to jump off the nearest bridge. If Christians wish to believe that America was founded on Christian principles, so be it. I could write a fairly exhausting article on why this isn’t the case. But I will save this pleasure for another time. What really does my head in, is that something so transparently fabricated, so superficial, so…ugh. The fact that saying “I believe in God” (whether you believe in one or not is irrelevant, merely a political tool) can override the importance and repercussions that a pro-war president will have on the entire world. Moreover, the fascinating notion that it is the Christians, who will be and have been the backbone of a pro-war movement today.

Allow me to illustrate:

What happened to modern day Christians in the U.S? They seem out of place with their European counter-parts. Ironically, they resemble their colleagues in the middle-east far more closely by discarding the non-violent and tolerant tenants of their own religion.

Ghandi once remarked:

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.
