Iran War Getting Closer - What Lies Behind the Hormuz Incident?

Can you feel it? The Iran war is getting closer. The rhetoric is stepping up, and the background chatter is increasing and increasing. But what’s the source of the chatter and the rhetoric?

The Hormuz incident is one in a long string of (sometimes successful) attempts to justify the aggression that is mounting towards Iran. Let’s take a closer look at it. Apparently, Iranian Revolutionary Guard boats conducted maneuvers close to US ships, threatening them, and nearly causing them to fire upon the boats. The accompanying clip shows a few speedboats taking a closer look at the US navy ships - nothing that would be a cause for concern in other waters, but apparently a ‘deadly’ situation in this case. The news said the boats didn’t make contact, that they were making threatening moves, and that this was a ’serious incident’.

Apparently the Pentagon thinks otherwise. They’ve released the original clip online, accompanied by the complete version (links below) which tells a very different story. The film starts with an Iranian boat hailing the US vessel, asking for their course. The US vessel repeatedly replies with what seems to be a standard phrase meaning “we’re not going to tell you anything,” at which point the Iranian vessels come close to the US ships to take a look.

The issue here is that some interested parties are pushing for war, and are completely ignoring (yet again) any evidence that comes to light. The background chatter is increasing, because, as usual, the major media outlets are simply buying what the government tells them, and don’t even verify the facts, much less investigate them. The end result of this is an ill-informed society, reacting to what the media (whom they were brought up to believe) are feeding them. The reaction is fear.

The war is getting closer simply because the government has stepped up their campaign. The war is getting closer, even though the pentagon and the CIA have both said that Iran is not a threat to the reason. The war is getting closer, and there is little we can do about it but be observant (another one), and be critical of what you read and watch.
