Nailing The Coffin Shut

Under pressure from the U.S and Israel, the Egyptian border was ordered sealed. Palestinians had been streaming into Egypt to buy the bear necessities.

But Egypt cannot hold the Palestinians at bay for long. A Palestinian truck broke through the border and civilians are flocking into Egypt. Not on some senseless rampage, but to survive. Israel is now on high alert, I have no idea what they were on before, given the somewhat extreme measures taken to suppress Palestinian civilians and Hamas.

What startles me most however, is that while the U.N, the Arab League and others have been condemning the blockade. The U.S threatens the only anchor of salvation the Palestinians have. Human rights as always, a very relative term for the Israelis and their allies. This condemnation is by no means a new thing. In fact:

The resolution is the third to explicitly condemn Israel—and the 10th to address Israeli actions in the region in some form—since the council was created two years ago. Source

Objectivity would compel me to agree that Palestinian rocket launches need to stop. As long as this eye-for-an-eye mentality continues there is no end in sight. Furthermore, it could be argued that Hamas are profiting from the media attention and global sympathy they are being awarded. But the ones who bear this burden — as always — are the civilians.
