U.S To Consider Pakistan Troop Displacement

The U.S Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has announced that combat-ready troops are ready to enter Pakistan to help native forces battle Al-Qaeda.

Despite the offered aid, Musharraf has previously announced that any foreign fighters landing in his soil would be labeled as an act of war. Something Senator Obama might wish to consider, come his theoretical nomination as U.S president. Morals aside, I can’t help but notice that Pakistan has been testing its Shaheen-1 Nuclear ballistic missile, a very clear message to those who are considering a small-scale “helping you out” invasion.

Ironically, there is no doubt that the participation of U.S troops in Pakistan would anger Pakistanis, and pile more resentment and pressure on Musharraf’s governance.

This is not the first time the U.S has threatened to ignore a nation’s sovereign borders in an attempt to pursue its own interests. In 2006:

“A January air-strike on suspected al Qaeda figures on the Pakistan border provoked protests by tens of thousands of Pakistanis and complaints by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, who said U.S. officials launched the attack without consulting his government.” source
