Bush Speech Fails To Inspire
People have moved on, Bush squares off and seems more preoccupied at defending his legacy than addressing concerns.
We are given a fairly predictable cookie-cutter address. A speech that seems tailored around a fill-in-the-blanks model. Counting on the usual epidemic of rhetoric to carry a semblance of meaning.
Yet history will record that amid our differences, we acted with purpose. And together, we showed the world the power and resilience of American self-government.
Notice that the implied worth of his agenda, purpose, resilience, do not necessarily hold positive connections. It sounds somewhat condescending, the implication that we’ll get it sooner or later. Bush continues to frame his metaphors with cunning, phrasing depictions of families and decent people.
At kitchen tables across our country, there is a concern about our economic future.
Anyhow, I will not bore you with details you’ve heard time and time again. The full speech can be found here.
