U.S Missile Defense System To Be Placed In Poland

Despite Russia’s threat to point its ballistic nuclear missiles towards Europe should should they host the U.S’ controversial new prototype missile system, Poland has reached a tentative agreement with the U.S. In return for the installation, Poland can expect an upgrade in their aerial defense. A package which the Poles seem to be eyeing with keen interest.

Should the missile system be implemented, Russia has said that it will take steps to “protect itself” from what it sees as a hostile gesture. Coming from Putin, a man who is bent on restoring the one-time superpower to its former glory, this is no idle threat.

‘The strategic balance in the world will be disturbed,’ Putin said. ‘To restore it we will have to create a system to overcome these American weapons.’

The U.S and its allies have claimed that the missiles will serve as protection against possible nuclear strikes by Iran and North Korea, who are said to be cooperating on missile technology. But this allegation has been criticised by many, including the National Intelligence Estimate. The U.S has also offered to share its technology with the Russians, to create a large scale symbiotic defense system against rogue states. An offer that has so far been ignored.
