Romney Freezes GOP Nominee Candidacy
A surprising turn of events — in appearance at least. His last speech is bound to strike a chord with fully fledged conservatives. Disclosing purpose and drive in a lover’s whisper. Not that I personally agree with the points, but you can’t help but admire the man. Specifically:
“I am convinced that unless America changes course, we will become the France of the 21st Century - still a great nation, but no longer the leader of the world, no longer the superpower,”
There you have it. Implied national-centrism, I cant help but ask myself how war can allow the U.S to retain superpower status.
- It is draining and bankrupting the economy
- Lack of global trust and respect
- Rejection of hegemonistic values
- Glocalization
- Currency speculation and change due to the first two points
The way I see it, it was the status of the U.S as a liberating and positive force that allowed the exporting of culture and goods, the foundation of a global hegemony. Already, values attached to the modern day America are increasingly rejected. Without influence, you cannot hope to become a hyper-power. Sure, you could always re-appropriate wealth across the world. Pipelines, oil, natural resources, but sooner or later unilateralism will backfire. As is quite obvious, and already happening.
“I agree with him on doing whatever it takes to be successful in Iraq, on finding and executing Osama Bin Laden and on eliminating al-Qaeda and terror.”
Come again? Osama Bin Forgotten, but thanks for bringing it up. Incidentally, good luck with winning a war on terror. Whatever that entails. It’s a bit like declaring law on prostitution or drugs. It can’t be done. We all know what happened in the U.S when prohibition took place, dont’t we? I’m sure surges in violence and troops levels will win hearts and minds in the not so far-East. You’d think it obvious by now, Iraq being labeled as the worst foreign policy miscalculation in modern history. Yet apparently all it takes is a gallant and noble cause, framed within the pretext of maintaining Captain of the world status. Whoosh, we’re back at the drawing board.
